Safaricom Gives Kenyans an Easy Way to Apply for a Higher Fuliza Limit
Safaricom has shared the official process that customers can use to request a review of their Fuliza M-PESA limit, following questions from users hoping to qualify for higher overdraft amounts.
The telecommunications company clarified that customers cannot manually increase their Fuliza limits. Instead, they can trigger a limit review through a USSD menu, after which the request is assessed by Fuliza’s banking partners based on the customer’s usage and repayment history.
How to Request a Fuliza Limit Review
Customers can initiate a review of their Fuliza limit by following these steps:
- Dial *334# on your Safaricom line.
- Select 00 – Fuliza M-PESA.
- Choose Refresh My Limit.
- Wait for confirmation after your request has been submitted.
According to Safaricom, submitting a request does not guarantee that your limit will increase. The review may result in your limit being increased, reduced or left unchanged depending on your account profile.
How Fuliza Limits Are Determined
Safaricom explained that Fuliza limits are reviewed by its lending partners rather than the telecom company itself. The assessment considers several factors, including how frequently customers use M-PESA, how often they use Fuliza and whether they repay their overdrafts on time.
Customers who regularly clear their Fuliza balances and maintain consistent M-PESA activity are generally more likely to qualify for higher limits over time. On the other hand, poor repayment habits or low account activity may result in lower limits or no change after a review.
Tips That May Improve Your Chances
While there is no guaranteed way to secure a higher Fuliza limit, Safaricom encourages customers to build a healthy usage history. Good financial habits include:
- Repaying Fuliza balances promptly.
- Using M-PESA regularly for sending money, paying bills and making purchases.
- Maintaining consistent activity on your Safaricom line.
- Avoiding overdue balances on Fuliza and other mobile credit facilities.
These factors are taken into account during periodic reviews carried out by the participating banks.
What Is Fuliza M-PESA?
Fuliza M-PESA is an overdraft facility available to eligible M-PESA users. It allows customers to complete transactions even when they do not have enough money in their M-PESA account, provided they remain within their approved limit.
The service can be used for payments such as sending money, buying goods and paying bills. Any amount used through Fuliza is automatically recovered from the customer’s next deposits into their M-PESA account, together with the applicable charges.
