Murkomen say Gachagua create ethinic division

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has intensified his criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of promoting ethnic division through his public statements and warning that authorities could take legal action if the remarks continue.

Murkomen Alleges Gachagua Is Using Divisive Rhetoric

In a statement shared on his official social media accounts, Murkomen claimed that Gachagua has repeatedly branded political leaders from the Mt. Kenya region who disagree with him as “wasaliti” (traitors). The Interior CS argued that such language has historically been used to stigmatize individuals and communities, making it capable of fuelling hostility and violence.

Murkomen further alleged that the former deputy president’s remarks have contributed to heightened political tensions in parts of the country, although he did not provide evidence directly linking Gachagua’s statements to specific incidents.

Security Agencies Directed to Monitor Remarks

The Interior CS said security agencies have been instructed to closely monitor Gachagua’s public utterances and intervene where they believe the law has been violated.

According to Murkomen, the government will not hesitate to pursue legal action if political rhetoric is deemed to threaten public safety or national cohesion. He maintained that preserving peace remains a priority as political activity ahead of the 2027 General Election gathers momentum.

Political Tensions Continue to Rise

The latest exchange adds to the ongoing political standoff between Murkomen and Gachagua, who have traded accusations in recent weeks over the country’s political climate and the handling of public demonstrations.

Gachagua has previously rejected similar accusations from government officials, insisting that he is advocating for accountability and accusing the administration of attempting to silence dissent.

The renewed war of words comes amid heightened political activity across the country as rival camps position themselves ahead of the next General Election, with leaders on both sides continuing to exchange sharp criticism over governance, security and national unity.
