Kenyan Met Warns of 7-Day Rain, Cloud Cover, and Cold Conditions in Several Counties
The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released its latest seven-day weather outlook, warning that many parts of the country should prepare for rainfall, chilly temperatures and overcast conditions between Tuesday, July 7, and Monday, July 13.
Regions Expected to Receive Rain
According to the forecast, counties in the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, Nyanza and parts of Central Kenya, including Nairobi, are expected to experience intermittent rainfall throughout the week. Residents in some areas should also expect afternoon thunderstorms and cloudy nights.
Counties such as Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga, Busia, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori, Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Nakuru, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Narok are likely to receive morning showers, afternoon rain and isolated thunderstorms on different days during the forecast period.
Central Kenya and Nairobi Forecast
In Central Kenya and Nairobi, including Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Meru, Embu, Nyandarua, Laikipia and Tharaka-Nithi, mornings are expected to remain mostly cloudy before giving way to occasional sunny intervals. However, showers may develop later in the day and continue into the evening in some locations.
Northern and Eastern Counties
Meanwhile, residents of Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit and Isiolo should expect largely sunny weather during the day, although a few places could experience isolated morning showers. Nights in these counties are expected to remain partly cloudy.
In the southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta and Tana River, cloudy mornings and nights are forecast before sunshine returns during the day.
Coast Weather Conditions
Along the Coast, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and the Tana Delta are expected to experience sunny spells, but occasional morning and afternoon showers could affect some areas, particularly during the first half of the forecast period.
Wind and Temperature Outlook
The weather agency also warned of strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots in parts of the Coast, North Eastern and northwestern Kenya, including Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Garissa, Isiolo, Mandera, Marsabit, Wajir, Turkana, Tana River and Kitui.
Temperatures are expected to vary significantly across the country. Daytime highs above 30°C are forecast in parts of the Coast, North Eastern and northwestern Kenya, while nighttime temperatures could fall below 10°C in high-altitude counties such as Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Kirinyaga and Meru.
